Title: OAL P&I Class 16/11/16
Post by: Val on November 16, 2016, 02:07:45 PM
:heeha: Wow, great class!!!!   :D   Yes I tried to keep step with the master....he did a pen & ink wash, and a pen & ink w/c wash.....I sort of did a P&I w/c wash!  ::)    :2funny:

Here is what I ended up with, still in need of a bit of work.....      Great fun despite the technical difficulty, was just like old times in Grenada!!!  :2funny:

O0 Nice job on the onion, Val. You got a lot of detail and great color for a follow along class.  I depend on that pause button quite a bit.  :help: Not an option for the live class.

I would love to take the live classes. Someday in the future, when I am not at work.  :painting:

Thank you Kathy, the live paint-a-long classes will always be my favourites...even if I can't keep up!  ;D

I used colours that were still on my palette from last week, not even close to Dennis' colours I'm sure, except when I had trouble and asked Nolan what the 'reddish' colour was. Turned out to be purple! A quick dip in the dioxazine purple and lots of water and presto!

These classes are so much fun and even though I never finish in time, I learn so much more because I don't have time to go back and fiddle. You will love it!  :yippee:

Dennis, thanks so much for this class. It was the best splash in a puddle I've had in a while. Lloyd said I must have had a great time because I was smiling for hours after.  :flowers:

Here it is 0325 and I'm still smiling!  :flowers: !  ;D

I popped my head in Just as Dennis made an oops  :2funny: with the ink and watched fascinated as he calmly carried on turning it into an ink wash instead, I would have lost my head at that stage,  :heeha:

I like teasing you Val 😘  You may not manage to finish on time, but heck better than not even starting on time like me... or not even starting some of the time.

Your oinion is great.

I was fascinated by Dennis, who calmly drew the second onion free hand in the live pen and ink class this week within minutes! Val has already commented so well about this class. I had some difficulty in switching my attention between Dennis and the funny chats of Val and Patricia. The latter fascinated me equally!! :smitten: :2funny:
This is my paint along result. Accidentally, I also had the same result like Dennis. My first onion became an ink wash due to the pen!I drew the second onion (to the left) with India ink and dip pen.

Looking forward to the next pen and ink class! :painting: :painting:

Win, one of the best parts of these live classes is that you see that it is ok to make an  and how easily the negative can be made into a positive.  O0 Well.....easier for some of us!  ;)     :2funny:

I used my dip pen.... my india ink never lets me down!  :heeha:

Thanks Annie, I would say this is the closest I've come to completing a paint-along during the actual class time! But that's only because Dennis did two to my one!     :2funny:

:heeha:   Wow! Great job Gita, and you managed both versions!

The funnier bits of my 'conversation' with Dennis & Nolan rarely makes print.... too busy splashing paint and water about!  :yippee:

One thing I have learned is to make sure I've got the computer covered with plastic wrap!  O0    :2funny: :2funny:

Yes it will be on OAL.... this might take a bit longer, Nolan has to sort out the audio side. We lost the audio for the last half. But that's ok...it worked  out rather well for me.  ::) The video quality picked up and it ran right to the end!  :2funny:

Thanks Val, like I said concentrating on drawing, typing and reading was a nice challenge! I was working with my small Surface beside my painting paper and typing properly was not easy. The next time, I am going to use my PC.

Thanks Jennylynn. The live class was exiting and " more intimate" with all of us doing the same thing inspite of being spread around the globe. I know such webinars from my professional field, but this webinar was very interesting and my table was rather messy because of painting AND chatting! Should have wrapped my laptop with plastic like Val. :2funny:

Beautiful onions, Gita.

I wish I had been home to watch the live lesson.  I would have watched it just for the sideshow with you girls chatting.  I am terrified of trying pen and ink.

Well done, Gita    Just remember that the live class has a different subject/ medium each time. We vary them for interest.

Thank you Kathy. See you the next time then!
Thanks Mea, I missed you. You are so omnipresent in PB, that I wondered where you were.
Thanks Dennis, yes I am aware that the live class could have someother medium, hopefully not oil.

Gita, we rotate between the mediums so there will be oil classes. Believe it or not, but even an oil class often has tips for the watercolorist, etc  O0

I am terrified of trying pen and ink.

 Mea? This can't be our fearless, experimenting, give anything a go Mea!  Must be another Mea here....  ;)   Your drawing skills have improved tremendously since you started, so this will be a breeze for you. Try a pencil sketch/outline of that beautiful poinsettia you did recently, put the ink over top, and if you're feeling daring enough....wash in a bit of colour! It will be magnificent! Come on Mea....you know you want too!  ^-^

Hmmm... Val.   No wonder you run the Paint Basket challenge.  You are so persuasive.

OK, please recommend a basic starter kit and I will have my son buy it for me for Christmas. And I'll give it a boo (never heard that word until you used it).

Positive thinking ladies...
This is the fun of those live classes.  One can quickly experiment with various media, including those we don't usually work with (BTW oil is fun Gita 😉 ), learn little tricks and tips, without having to focus on a final product.

Mea, ink drawing with indian ink and nib is great fun.  There are 2 approaches.  You can first make sure you get the nib tip caught in the paper and spray the ink all over the paper and often the table itself 😨 , then a few unexpectly blobs of ink with drop on the paper 😨😨 , and finally your 3 first fingers will be covered in ink 😲😨😞
... OR
you can follow Dennis' instructions and you will have a beautiful clean drawing!

I tried both, both are fun, but I prefer the later choice with Dennis 👏👏👏 .

Being a WCist yourself, you will enjoy adding a light wash to ink drawing.

Kidding aside 😆 it is a great medium with a touch of nostalgia.  Simple supply and very elegant.  Thank you Dennis.  :thankyou:
