Title: New website
Post by: Zilpa on September 17, 2016, 06:21:25 AM
Hi all, I am sorry I have not been around, but for the last 2 weeks I have been learning and setting up my new website. I am using Wordpress and did it following a YouTube video. The video went for 4 hours but it took me 2weeks. I still have more paintings to put in and also to add an email opt in. I have just opened a mailchimp account so will add that this week. I would really appreciate your feedback on this one to see if I am missing anything else. I am thinking of linking the blog to mailchimp so that my blogs are my newsletters. Eventually I would like to put in video content with short lessons but am thinking of maybe setting up a seperate site for that. I have also been commissioned to set up a website for a neighbour who is starting up a business sending fruit and veg to Singapore. That will certainly pay for my own website for the next few years and maybe a few more.  :2funny:
Anyway enough rambling, this is what I have so far. http://www.pyrowax-art.com.au (http://www.pyrowax-art.com.au)

:heeha: Wow! Great job setting up your website, Zilpa. It is very professional and eye appealing. I like your first blog. Showing the steps of your creations gives an even deeper appreciation for your work.  :congrats:

:thankyou: Kathy, I have not pointed anyone else to it yet, because I need more work up and the email link, but just wanted to know, I was heading in the right direction.

Zilpa,

Wow, you have really been busy.  Beautiful work on display.

Love the photo of you.  I too am of Portuguese descent - 100%.  My grandparents were all Azorean.

After doing the first three e-newsletters for PB, I have learned to appreciate Mail Chimp.

You go girl!

Very nice, Zilpa. Are the prices for prints or original art? It wasn't obvious to me. Also, consider showing the sizes in inches. I'm not sure where your market is, but if your looking for sales in the U.S., you might want to consider it. I don't know how much control you have in creating the site, but a simple hover over could be the solution.

One other thing. I'm guessing that the prices are in Australian dollars. You need to specify this and perhaps have a  list of countries at the top of the page which would display the prices in the respective currencies. I.e., Australian dollars, Euros, US dollars, Canadian dollars, etc. There are  several solutions to this. Look around and see what you like.

:thankyou: Mea and Steve I really appreciate the feedback. Mea you are doing a great job with the newsletters. Steve on the first banner on my home page it says " Welcome to Pyrowax Art original art by Zilpa van der Gragt" it does not say prints, as far as the rest go I will definitely take them on board thank you they are very valid points.

Well done creating your website hope itbrings you lots of success.
Just one thing get someone else to proof read it as you never see the simple mistakes.
In your FAQ  the first point you have the word  "art" instead it should be "are"

:thankyou: Teresa and Dennis. It now has an email opt in as well. I have about twenty more paintings to add yet, and finally some time to create again. My internet keeps dropping in and out so it has been a nightmare. Only one more week till I get the NBN with 1000 Gigs per month.

Dear Zilpa;

I especially like the Avocado and Garlic still life. Your pricing is
very reasonable.

Is the Art work originals or paper copies?   The reason I ask this
is the nature of a wax based paintings and its fragility in shipping
may be problematic.  Just a thought.

Regards, May lynn

:thankyou: May lynn, they are originals but will be shipped in two boxes. attached to the back of the inside box so no waxed edges are touching then foam between the layers of boxes. I am pretty sure that will work. I have sent one locally to test it and it was safe.

:thankyou: Nolan, it looks even better today, I worked out how to get my thumbnails rectangular so they are the same shape as my paintings rather than square.

:yippee: :yippee: I have just had my first sale since registering my business. I know it has taken a while but at least it is a start. This one sold through my Etsy shop which I was actually contemplating closing down after setting up my own shop. Maybe I have to rethink that. What do you think?

Congratulations on the sale, Zilpa.

Can't advise you on what to do because I don't really have enough art to sell.

:thankyou: Mea, I  will be anxiously waiting to hear that the painting arrives safely. Encaustic paintings are a bit more challenging to send as I can't have anything touching the front of the painting at all.

:yippee: Congratulations Zilpa!!!  Sounds like encaustic art would be best displayed in a shadow box type of frame.

Do you pay to be on the Etsy site? If it is free or doesn't cost much it might be worth letting it stay up for a few months and see what happens.

:thankyou:Val, setting up is free, they take 3% commission which is pretty cheap compared to galleries. I have pulled out of the gallery all together now as it got way too political and bitchy for me. Which is sad but sometimes you got to do what you got to do. The only thing I don't like about Etsy is that you have to ship the painting off before you get the money, because the money gets paid to Etsy and they in turn pay you after taking out their cut.
I am waiting to get paid and make sure the client gets their painting then I think I will close it and advertise the heck with my site.

Well, the costs are reasonable, but crikey I wouldn't like parting company with my work until I was paid either. Having been 'stiffed' before by dealing with go between internet setups, I am much happier working with direct payment and sending out commissions when required.

That's brilliant Zilpa.  O0

I'd love to try something like that....my big problem is the closest post office is about 50 miles away, and known to be not all that dependable. I suppose there are some good points to a more 'civilized' location!  ;)

Well there is always digital art. I still play around with that a bit, but must admit I do prefer getting my hands dirty.
