Title: Reflections
Post by: Tousabella on September 04, 2016, 07:02:10 AM
Well, I'm stumped on white paper...LOL
I have been doing Reflections of Fall, and I'm doing it on white paper. Where others have used brown or tan paper, the river doesn't show as much, so if I'm using white, how do I get the 'effect' of the river? I've overlaid some of the reflections, but where there is a chance of the river showing, should I put brown down first?
El Stucko!!  LOL

Wish I could unstick you, Sista, but I don't have any experience working with pastels.

I'm sure one of the pastel people will come along to get you moving again.

I haven't seen that lesson as yet.  ??? Probably a question for Dennis. I'll be interested in hearing this myself.  O0

YooHoooo   Dennis.  You must be outside shoveling snow!  Brrr....your weather is as warm as ours!
I keep hoping you will read my post and comment.
Thanks...keep warm.

Retta, if you could possible add a photo of the problem then it would be easier for me to comment on the problem.

Thanks...I'll get my daughter to take a pic as soon as she comes in from the ranch. It's the tooth of the paper...and I didn't want to 'rub the reflection' in.
Thanks...it will be on the forum as soon as I get it.

I sure hope you are keeping warm.

Looking forward to see the photo.

You are confusing me about Dennis shoveling now... Fall is arriving soon for us... but for Dennis is will soon be Spring and then Summer.  Lucky them  :smitten:

New Zealand, North and South Island, had a cold front move through over this weekend...high winds. low temp, and snow, Annie. Just hoping the Clarks' were keeping warm.

Heard about cold front but not that snow needed shoveling in hit NZ.  Must have miss that piece of news.  We had terrible hail last week... twice.

The world is upside down (pump intended  )

Retta, we did not have snow where we are, but can see the snow-capped mountains and Mt Taranaki in the distance.  The Polar Blast came in with a vengeance, blowing a gale. Still chilly but not so cold at the moment. Our summer starts late in this country.

Glad you were safe, Dennis...cold, but safe.

Here is my pic so far on white 11X15, Strathmore, 140#.  I was worried about the 'tooth'. I see on the brown, or tan, that you used, it covered any thin layer of color...making it look like the river.
I see that the cloud looks like a reflection on the water because of the white showing, but I was wondering about the water.
The trees I could scrub in with my finger, but not the water.
Thanks for your time....sure appreciate it.  I'm getting back on the horse, but seems I drop the reins occasionally.  LOL

Hey, sista, I like this pastel painting.  Beautiful colors and a folksy kind of style.

Thanks, Mea and Kathy. Just trying to get back in the swing of things. I was concerned about getting the color into the tooth of the paper.
Feels good to paint. I look forward to finishing this one so I can do another...I'm so far behind.

::) I just went to have a quick boo in my gallery to see if I had done any pastels on white paper. Guess what I found....    looks like I've got another UFO floating around to finish! But it was on white paper!  ;D

That aside, I see what you are saying Bella... but I'm not sure how you would go about fixing it. Hopefully Dennis will be along soon.

Retta, I haven't seen this lesson but just looking at the river as a painting, it doesn't seem odd to me--in fact one would expect the river to be reflecting the sky and clouds and so it seems it does.

 Hello my Bella! I have finally seen this lesson, I'm slagged  ! I don't know if you are done with this, but here is what I have found....along with an idea or two of my own.

It seems to me that you are just missing some horizontal lines in the water! I should have spotted that right from the start.    We do exactly the same thing in w/c and pencil... there's that recall problem again! Now I am not certain if they were added in with a bit of white, or lifted out. My internet is so slow and very difficult for me to go back through to pick it out.... so there's a bit of homework for you!  ;) Or, you could just go and look at the other paintings in the lesson thread!

Hope this is helpful if you haven't already finished by now....these computers really should come with a crank!  :crazy2:    :2funny:
