Grid templates for your photo transfers
thegrindre:
Hi all,
Been playing around with lots of ideas for making your grids to fit your photos so the picture can be transferred to the canvas easily.
Here's one idea and is pretty simple.
This zip folder (Below) holds four grid templates, two as a portrait and two as a landscape. Both are made to fit our US standard 8 1/2" by 11" letter size printer paper with the 1" and approximately 1/2" squares that I've added to them.
How to use them is pretty easy. You'll need a graphical painting application that utilizes layers. Reason is, the white background will need to be deleted leaving the black grid lines to lay over your photo.
Once that's done, the pic should be printed out as easy as pie on a 8 1/2" by 11" piece of printer paper for transferring purposes.
Briefly it'll go like this:
1. Unzip this folder to your desktop. (It'll have four bitmap files in it.)
2. Open your favorite graphics application software.
3. Load your photo in and re-size it to 8 1/2" by 11" or smaller. (1056x816 pixel size, BTW.)
4. Create a layer or load a template as a layer of the appropriate template (Portrait or Landscape) then delete all the white background. (Using the magic wand tool.)
5. Merge the layer down and bingo. Your photo has now been gridded.
6. Print, transfer and paint...
PLEASE ask questions if you need more detailed help.
I'd be more then happy to walk you through it all, step by step, if necessary.
Val:
What software are you using? :help: Have no idea where to start with this but it sounds like a great time saver.

Well, I've spent very little money on software since 1988 because most everything you and I need is free so I use Paint.NET for one of my graphic manipulating tools.
You can get it here.

You can use most any graphical painting program that supports layers that you want to.
There's Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, Gimp, Coral Draw, just to name a few. There must be hundreds of them out there, though.
Unfortunately, the little painting app (MS Paint) that comes with Windows doesn't support layers.
Here's a before and after shot.
Val:
Looks good Rick, I'll have to see what I can find. O0

Just got to thinking that I would be happy to do all this for you. No charge or fee, just happy to do it is all.
Send me your photos and I'll grid 'em for you and send 'em back.
Happy :painting:
