Started this one today and really..I think it's jsut about done. About 4 hours on it. The drops were alot more difficult than I anticipated. They are small, (and so many) that I can't really do each one of them like you are supposed to do (tutorial). I just suggested alot and of course couldn't put every singe one it..and don't want to.
I started to shade around the bug and then realized it looks good as a vignette. So..........with that little drop at the very end of the leaf at top...........would you put that in at all .........because it's way outside of the vignette?
Probably not chance it. It's nice! but i don'[t want ot end up doing it and then it doesn't make it any better at all.
It would look odd having any suggestion of it since a vignette (white) is just around the center of the drawing. I don't want to post it yet. It doesn't look at all like the photo........they never do. It's a drawing! (reference).
My camera is messed up too since I think it got moisture in it from fishing a week ago. I might be able to manage it though.
P.S. I know I have done so many of other people's photographs. I will try to start doing my own photos after this one (and the one I'm painting still).

No, this is the photo. What do you think, if I make a vignette (white) around the main bug, should I leave out that little drop at the tip of the leaf? I think so since it would be really way outside of the vignette.
Well, it took me about 3.5 hours or so from start to finish yesterday. I'm not done yet, but I have a feeling after the fiddling so much already, I should not go any further with it. It would only reinforce the discouragement of doing the next drawing and so on.
It shouldn't be so critical, and so what if it's not perfect. It's about doing another one, not about nailing each one down before doing any more! By doing many...you progress, not by agonizing (even though you might think you can improve it..you just move on before it gets overly obsessive).
AFTER..........I did the drops here and there, I went back to Nolan's Tulip Tutorial on drops. A little late now. But these are so tiny, that it's still difficult to do them as instructed. I might fiddle on a couple to see what happens tomorrow......not today though

Thank you C.B...i just added a few hints of light grasses to suggest on the bottom area way below the large water drop..it helped anchor down the whole thing just a little bit more..and added some more shading extending it into the upper left quandrant area...just a litttle..always better to keep a clean white look than dirty grey.
Extended the grass blade too further down to the corner of the paper..helped a little in anchoring it again...(this was after this post) But that's it!

This was so hard to do Nolan. I worked forever on it. As you can see, the original photo doesn't have alot to go by...not alot of form here, etc. The drops are way too small to put in accurately. The large drop...crap...i lost it..i went off...........on my own after I got sick of it.
I did put in a few faint grasses at the bottom later on.

My thought also. Tremendous amount of detail.
