SunRai:
I'm new here and have been having fun poking around a bit.  I've downloaded the free watercolor lessons and the perfect painting lessons.  Now I just have to find time to review then and do some painting!  I painted in oils many years ago (40+), and recently I decided to try acrylics, and then watercolors.  I've always been a bit intimidated by watercolors, but when I gave them a try I got hooked!  I've dabbled a bit, took a short intro course, and have signed up for some private lessons with a watercolor artist that lives near me.  I'm excited about learning more about this medium.

I retired a few years ago from being a technical illustrator for an aerospace company - lots of fun!  I took care of my parents until their passing, and now I have a wonderful granddaughter (8 yrs old) who I care for every day.  She's a budding artist, and has done some wonderful acrylic and watercolor paintings!  I've bought her some good brushes and quality paints so she will be as successful as possible, and not get discouraged by poor tools and paint!  We paint together, and she amazes me with her ability!  Actually, she puts me to shame!  She keeps me busy, so my painting time seems to be easily eaten up by other responsibilities.  But it's worth it to have so much time with her!

I have lots to learn, and am excited to find Paint Basket!  There is so much info here.  I'll touch base occasionally, but this summer I will be busy with teaching crafts at a youth summer camp.  I'll have spotty internet service while I'm there.  I've downloaded lots of lessons so I can work on them during my free time at camp.

Anyway, it's nice to "meet" you all - I'll see you around!  - Pat

 :bigwelcome: to Paintbasket Pat!

It sounds like you are a very active retiree.

I'm retired also and like you, the first time I tried watercolor, I got hooked right away.

It's great to hear you are supporting and encouraging your granddaughter to paint.  This is quality time with her grandma she will always cherish I'm sure.

I'm glad you found Paintbasket and you're already taking advantage of all the great teaching.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of your work.  I'd also love to see something your granddaughter has done.

I hope you enjoy your time at camp.  Happy  :painting:

:welcome: Pat to our website. I love it when I see parents and grandparents encouraging children into the arts. That's the very reason I am in the arts today. Look around - there's lot of watercolour lessons to learn from as well as other things.

SunRai:
Lillian and Dennis - Thanks for your warm welcome!

I'll post some of my work once I actually have something to show!  I've only done a few little paintings, just getting a feel for the paint.  Plus, I have to figure out how and where to post them!  I'll figure it out, though.

Yes - I love to work with my granddaughter.  I've set up a little studio for her in a corner of my studio.  She has her own sewing machine (we also sew, quilt, and do art quilts), paints, brushes, etc.  I want her to have her own things so she learns to care for them (and also so I don't have to share!).  But she has the real deal - quality paints, brushes, paper, etc so she can get the best results and not be discouraged by poorly functioning tools.  I really do love the time we spend together.  We also camp together for a week each summer - just the two of us - and we spend the evenings crafting and painting.  She's just as passionate about all this as I am, so it makes it fun!  She will probably be painting along with me when I try that Cosmos lesson!  We just did a quick vase of flowers, and hers was amazing!  She's not as inhibited as I am - I need to learn that from her!

As an example of the other kind of art I do - my avatar is a photo of one of my little wall-hanging quilts.  It's a landscape of Mt. Rainier, using fabric, color pencils, beads, shells, thread-painting, applique, etc.  I love doing these little art quilts!

Anyway - I'll check in occasionally, and post photos when I have some!  Thanks for welcoming me so warmly!

-Pat

I also take care of my granddaughter.  Although she seems to enjoy art, it's usually on my walls!!  ;D (She's 2)
