Our framer at the woodshop said she could take the canvas off the stretchers(? not sure if this is the correct name) and frame the paintings?  Is this okay to do?  The thickness of the canvas makes it hard to frame as is.

(I found the appropriate place for this post, I just don't know how to move it now that I have posted it here!)

Yes it's fine, they will take it off the stretcher bars and mount the canvas onto board for you, then frame it.
