Have you ever wished you could chat to one of our tutors privately to ask for advice about one of your paintings? Do you live too far away to attend one of our classes or events? Would you prefer to have more personal attention than you can get in a class situation?
Then our Ask an Artist © service is just for you. If you are familiar with this service, you can select from the buttons below, if not, scroll past the buttons below to read more.
How does it work?
Our tutors make themselves available at certain times for private tuition. You can book some of this time so that one of them can help you on a one to one basis, just like you would with any personal trainer, except that we don't come to your house - well not physically anyway ![]()
We contact you on webcam via Skype at the time you have booked. Let's say you have booked a 30 minute session. For those 30 minutes you will have the full attention of the tutor and can ask him / her any question relating to your painting during that time.
For example, if you are painting a landscape and are battling with the trees, you can book an Ask an Artist © session with one of our tutors. You can then via webcam show them what your painting looks like and they will be able to tell what you are doing wrong and even show you via their webcam how to do it correctly. Wouldn't that be cool?
Another example is when you are busy with one of our tutorials, let's say the color mixing tutorial, and there is a part that doesn't make sense or something you are struggling with. You then book yourself an Ask an Artist © session and your tutor can then explain the section you are having problems with to you - face to face in the comfort of your own home. It couldn't get much better than that!
How do I book?
To book is a quick, easy three step process :
1) You purchase "time" using the "Buy Time" button above or below. You can buy blocks of 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes at a time. These minutes are valid for 12 months, so you can purchase say 60 minutes now and use them as and when you need to. Maybe 15 minutes today, 30 minutes next week and another 15 minutes in two or even 11 months time. You decide how much time you want to buy and when you want to use it.
2) You click on the "Book an Artist" button above or below. You will then see a schedule of when each of our tutors are available. You choose a tutor of your choice and a time that suits you and book that time. You can book for as long or as short a time you want, as long as it is in multiples of 15 minutes.
3) At the time you have booked, the tutor you have booked will contact you on webcam via Skype. You will then have their full and undivided attention for that time.
See I told you it was easy to Ask an Artist ©

FAQ
If I buy 60 minutes, do I have to book a 60 minute session?
No, you can use them as and when you need to. Maybe 15 minutes today, 30 minutes next week and another 15 minutes in two or even 11 months time. You decide how much time you want to buy and when you want to use it. You do however have to book your Ask an Artist © sessions in multiples of 15 minutes though.
What if I have booked 30 minutes and all my questions have been answered in 20 minutes?
You are booking a private session with a tutor so he / she cannot double book for "just in case", so you have the choice to either continue chatting to the tutor about another project you are busy with / are planning or to end the session. If you do end the session then you will unfortunately not be credited the remaining minutes. Our experience is that folks usually under estimate the time required to answer the questions they have so we seldom have "time to spare" in a session.
What if I have booked 30 minutes, that time is up and I still have questions?
If possible, and if you still have time in credit, the tutor will give you the option to extend the session for a further time. It all depends on if the tutor has a session booked back to back with yours or not.
What if I have booked 15 minutes, that time is up and my question has not been answered completely?
If possible, and if you still have time in credit, the tutor will give you the option to extend the session for a further time. It all depends on if the tutor has a session booked back to back with yours or not. The tutor will always try his or her best to answer your question completely in the time you have booked, but it is not always possible or practical, especially when you are painting with as the tutor is explaining or if you have a very technical question that needs answering.
How do you know it is me that has bought time / booking a session?
You need to be registered on the site in order to book so that we can remember who you are and how many minutes you have available to book. When you are registered on the site, you then also have access to all the other member only features of the site, so if you aren't already a member, why not join now by clicking HERE (Link opens in a new window).
Is there a way for me to see how many minutes I have available to book?
Yes, in the booking station you will see a My Time button. If you click this button you will be shown how much time you have in credit that can be used to book an Ask an Artist © session.
If I have bought time, can somebody else use it?
Yes and No. When you book an Ask an Artist© session, it is booked under YOUR username. In order to do that you need to have logged into the website using your username and password. Nobody else can make a booking with your credits unless they have logged in using your username and password. You can however, when booking an Ask an Artist © session, supply us with a friend's name and Skype address so that we contact them instead of you - really great if you want to treat them for their birthday, etc.
Me and a friend want to book an Ask an Artist © session together, can we?
Yes you can. One of you will book the session and the tutor will contact you on your chosen Skype address. The person making the booking is the "primary student" for that session. The tutor is very happy to help you and your friend together in one session as long as it's orderly, remember that he / she can only answer one question at a time, so you would have to ask your questions one at a time. If the tutor is being bombarded from all sides with questions and feels he or she is not able to provide a decent service to either of you as a result, then the tutor reserves the right to limit the questions being asked to the "primary student".
We are an art group and would like to book an Ask an Artist session where the whole group will be present, is this possible?
Of course it is, but please first chat to the tutor you want to book! It takes a small amount of planning and chatting in advance to ensure the practicalities of a group session are taken care of and that the tutor knows what you want to accomplish from your group session. The tutor will need to know if it's going to be a "rapid fire" type questions and answers session, or if you want the tutor to do a demonstration to the group, etc. so that he / she can prepare for and have the required equipment, etc., ready. From your side it will also take a bit of prep as you will need to ensure that everybody has the ability to see and hear the tutor, know what you want to ask, etc. During these group sessions we also need one person to be the "designated spokesperson" who has the microphone to relay the questions being asked by the members of the group to the tutor. If you would like to have more info on this option and what you would need to do to organise a group session like this, please don't hesitate to contact Nolan for a chat about the technical aspects, etc. You can contact him by clicking HERE.
